It all begins with an idea.
Hello you!
You’re investing your money, so let’s chat about me!
Thank you for turning the page on this site! I honestly was not a natural born runner or athletic person my any means! I actually started running about back in 2014 as a form of physical therapy after a health setback. Since then I have really grown in the sport and continually set goals, exceed them and start new ones. I’ve inspired others to begin running as they know if I can do it, they can also! Right now I am in pursuit of the lofty goal of completing the Abbott World Marathon Majors 9-Star title and my supporters like you are right there with me to help me get there along with supporting some great causes along the way!
I am not a stranger to fundraising! In fact, I really do prefer to run this way as it gives me a purpose beyond my own self goals. I love it when I know that my supporters can see that they have invested wisely in my efforts. They can also see that it is a cause I believe in and makes a meaningful impact. With New York Road Runners, I run as an altruist. Sure I could take the easy way and just pay the entry fee. But I’m happy (and my sponsors are also!) that I “run for a reason”!
IT ALL REALLY STARTED…
My competitive running started in June 2001 at the Yellow Brick Road 5K in Oconomowoc. What a better way to spend the Pandemic than being outside! From there it grew into training for my first marathon in New York City as a goal in November 2021. I gave it a few days after the marathon to see if I wanted to do anything further. Honestly I was ready to hang up my shoes but too sore to even touch them! Then I read about the Abbott Six Star program and decided to make the committment.
My advice for anyone looking to do the Abbott Six or even Nine Star…. plan ahead! It takes a decent about of effort to plan out your run schedule. You can expect a minimum of 1,000 training miles a year and several thousands of dollars in travel expenses for each race. You really need to lay out on a calendar when you plan to accomplish each race. I think 2 per year is realistic for most people. While there is no current time limit to complete your journey, I think you might want to get it done while you are in a running mood and healthy.
Where does the money go that you donate?
Great question…I’m glad you asked! When you make a donation thru the links below, 100% of what you donate goes directly to the cause. I pay for all of my own transportation and personal expenses related to the races. This is your assurance that your money is used for the maximum benefit of the charitable organization, just as I intended it!
